HIKETHON becomes a walking event

Walking marathon around Tharandter Wald delights more than 200 athletes

At the third edition of #hikethon hikers covered 42.195 kilometres and 800 metres of ascent.

At the weekend, 226 hiking enthusiasts started the 42.195 km third edition of #hikethon A total of 222 completed the clockwise route from Freibad Naundorf around Tharandter Wald. “The fastest woman took just 6:54 hours,” said an impressed Andreas Gartner, who organised the event with his company 3G projects. “The slowest took a full eleven and a half hours.”

Time was not the point of the hike. “We had excellent weather and, despite the 800 metres of ascent, everyone finished with a smile,” said Gartner. “Thanks to many hardworking helpers, sponsors and supporters and exemplary cooperation with the regional authorities, we were able to offer the region’s hikers a great event.”

There is more to come this year. On 14 September, #freibergeracht offers routes of 22, 28 or 50 km around Silberstadt Freiberg.

At the end of the year, 3G projects will hold the 34 km #winterwalk from Freiberg to Holzau on 27 December. [eb/3g]
